I remember the moment I went into labor with Cohen like it was yesterday. It was around dinner time on the 15th. I was having some mild contractions and I was praying that he was finally ready to come into the world. You see, even in the womb he knew what he wanted. He had to have it his way, even if that meant going 5 days past his due date. Jesse and I had a tasty meal at Buffalo Wild Wings and I indulged on some honey BBQ wings & loaded potato wedges.
When we got home I started writing down the contractions because I could tell they were following a pattern. I went to bed around 11pm that night & at about 6/7am I woke up to go pee. I went pee & then crawled back into bed when I heard a ‘pop’ sound. I knew something was off so I jumped up and went to the bathroom & I thought I was peeing again but it had a little bit of a green tinge to it. I knew my water broke so I woke up Jesse and said, “Umm, hun, I’m pretty sure my water just broke.”
He sprung up out of bed and said, “What?! Seriously? Okay, what do we need to do!” He was so ready. I told him not to worry, the contractions weren’t bad so I was going to shower. I showered, shaved my legs & got dressed. I called Dr. Cass around 8am, when my contractions were coming on a bit more, and he told me to meet him at the hospital. So, off we went!
When we arrived, I was at 2-3cm & Dr. Cass had to break my water bc it was only leaking at the time. They assumed I’d have little Cohen in my arms around dinner time that day. Whoohoo!
Fast forward to dinner time…..
Still no baby. I wasn’t progressing as quickly as they’d hoped (I now blame that on getting the epi too early and it being too strong). I labored into the night. I was exhausted & just ready to hold this boy.
Around 10pm I was finally dialted & ready to push.
The pushing went on for just over 2 hrs. It was horrible. No one told me you can get the shakes & throw up during labor. Yeah, that wasn’t fun. Finally, after 2 hrs of pushing, Cohen just wasn’t budging. I could see the look on Dr.Cass’ face. It was the look that we may just have to do a c-section. I was SOOO not about to have that after all this work! He told me to give him one more big push. On the next contraction, I actually ended up throwing up again – and it was a BIG one – and my throwing up actually started to push that boy out!!! Next thing I know, I can feel that little boy coming out and I heard his big ol’ cry.
4 years ago I became a Mom.
I can’t believe my biggest baby is growing up so fast. I love the boy he’s becoming & his huge compassion for others. He is an amazing big brother & such a sweet son. He loves playing football (proper football that is, soccer to americans) & racing cars. He picks up on everything pretty quickly, I have a feeling he may outsmart us here in a few years.
Happy Birthday Cohen.
Mommy loves you with all my heart.
