I started this post yesterday & was crying as I wrote it. Today is a much better day! Yeah! 🙂 I’ve gone through my stages – shock & awe, angry (not at having 2 babies – at the medical staff who have missed this for so long), fear & then acceptance. All in less than 24 hrs mind you! lol. Okay, so now…
I’m just going to go head & answer/respond to the various questions/comments I’ve received so far…
Are the babies healthy?
As far as we know, yes. I spoke with the nurse yesterday who was in touch with the OB. Baby A was measuring at 20wks 3 days with a weight of 12.7 oz & Baby B measured at 20wks 6 days with a weight of 13.8oz.
Are they identical twins?
What we don’t know is whether they are DiDi (Dichorionic-Diamniotic) twins or MoDi (Monochorionic-Diamniotic ) twins. Because my ultrasound wasn’t preformed until later in the pregnancy it’s harder to tell the difference. I will have to get more scans to try and determine which they are. What we do know is that they are sharing a placenta but have separate amniotic sacs – so that’s good.
Do twins run in your family?
No…mostly. An uncle of my Mom had twins and an uncle of Jesse’s Mom had twins. But from the research I have done, identical twins are not genetic. It’s just a “lucky you!” kind of thing. Totally random.
How are you feeling?
Umm, today I’m good! Tuesday, when we found out, I was just in a state of shock. I’m sure you could tell by my video announcement. Utter shock is an understatement. Then, Wednesday, I went through being angry at the medical staff for missing it for SO long, then being sad/scared of what could go wrong & if everything was okay with the babies & last I got into mission mode – researching & getting answers to my questions. So, today, I’m good.
Our entire family dynamic is going to drastically change, but the Good Lord knows what He’s doing, so I guess we’re just going to have to put our faith in Him that it will all work out.
What did your family say?
No one believed us. Seriously. ha ha. I mean I don’t blame them either! They just saw us a few months ago and I was showing just like I was with the boys as far as size, just higher than them. Not to mention there is not a single girl in the family – and now they’re getting 2 for the price of 1! They are super excited now, but I know it’s so hard for them to be away, especially knowing how much help I’m going to need. I vote that they move in 🙂
What do you need?
Well, CLOTHES! ha ha I have had a number of people offer to send clothes – so that has been awesome. We’ll need more cloth diapers bc I only had enough for technically “1 child” when I did it with the boys since Cohen was beginning potty training while Lucas was in them. Girl decor for the rooms. I probably am not going to do too much in this area because we are renting, but little things will be good. One of the girls will be in the guest room so that room will be mostly the same as it is now. The boys are going to be moving into a room together so we will need to get them twin beds. I’m hoping to find twin beds that can turn into a bunk bed for the future. AND of course all the other little things – a twin boppy for tandem nursing, booster seat for Cohen so one of the girls can just have his old carseat, a lightweight double stroller – and girls bedding. WHEW!
Where can I send you stuff?
Our address is in my About Me section and on the Contact Page. I know some of you are concerned about shipping because we’re in England, but our address is considered a US address so the same shipping rates apply for us.
So what now?
Now, I just wait until Monday to schedule and appointment with the OB at Lakenheath. Once we get that appointment we’ll have our questions answered. I’ll start getting more frequent ultrasounds (which I would have been getting if this was caught earlier) and I’ll get more tests done to ensure we are all doing well.
Now, we just ask for prayers as this journey just because double the fun! I know that loads of you are prayer warriors, so I am just going to give a big THANK YOU to you now! I have been feeling your prayers and welcome them to keep on comin’!
If you have any other questions – PLEASE don’t hesitate to ask 🙂
Just leave me a comment & I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!
